GameDay: P-Bruins to host Manchester in Eastern Conference Clash

Could we ever see some NHL action in Boston this season? Well, maybe at some point, but an end to this lockout doesn’t seem to be in sight. Meanwhile… Tonight the AHL’s Providence Bruins will hold the hockey spotlight in New England as they play host to conference rival Manchester in a showdown at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center. Here is your complete preview for tonight’s contest between the P-Bruins and the Monarchs.

Teams: Manchester Monarchs at Providence Bruins

Records: Manchester 10-8-3 (23 Points) , Providence 9-8-2 (20 Points)

Location: Dunkin’ Donuts Center , Providence, Rhode Island

Time: 7:05 P.M. (EST)

Last Game: Portland Pirates 4, Manchester Monarchs 0 – Worcester Sharks 3, Providence Bruins 2 (F/SO)

Players to Watch: Andrei Loktionov (MCH) – The last time I saw the Monarchs in action was back on opening night at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center when Manchester was able to edge the home-standing P-Bruins by a 2-1 score. Far and away the most impressive skater on the visiting side was former fifth round draft choice Andrei Loktionov. In just 12 games this season, he’s scored 4 goals and added 5 assists for the Monarchs. You can read my full report on Loktionov, here.

Chris Bourque (PRO) – The son of Boston sports legend Raymond Bourque hasn’t exactly blow the doors off anyone during his first year in the Bruins’ organization. It took him a while to get going, not finding the back of the net until Friday November 9, almost an entire month into the season. However, he’s been on a bit of a roll lately and has taken over the team lead in scoring with 14 points (2G/12A)  in 19 contests. With as much offensive talent as Bourque possesses, a breakout game could come at any point.

Tonight’s Lineup (Subject To Change):

FORWARDS:

Caron–Spooner–Bourque

Sauve–Camper–Cunningham

MacDermid–MacKinnon–Tardif

Florek–Hanson–Robins

DEFENSE:

Exelby–Krug

Warsofsky–Trotman

Bartkowski–Cohen

GOALTENDER:

Svedberg

Hutchinson

Scratches– ….. Ryan Button, Tommy Cross

S/T to P-Bruins beat reporter Mark Divver who covers each morning skate and updates the team’s lines on his blog. You can check out some of his work, here.

Injuries:

Last Time We Met: Monarchs 2 , Bruins 3

– The last time the P-Bruins and Monarchs met was back on Friday November 16 at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center. The Bruins were led by goals from Chris Bourque, Carter Camper and Jamie Tardif, picking up a 3-2 home-ice victory over their Eastern Conference rivals.

Prediction: The P-Bruins have enjoyed quite the roller coaster season here in the early going, and this one could really go either way with two very evenly-matched teams. However, I’d expect Providence to bounce back from their shootout defeat last Sunday with a huge win over the Monarchs on Friday evening.

Monarchs  2 , Bruins 4
