GameDay: Providence to Host Manchester in 2012 AHL Season Opener

I have to admit, it does feel really good to be bringing you all a “GameDay” piece for the first time since late April. The reason? Because it means that tonight, there will be a hockey game. Albeit, not where everyone had hoped with the Boston Bruins originally scheduled to open their season last night in Philadelphia, but hockey nonetheless. On top of it, the P-Bruins look like they’re primed for an exciting season through the additions of many talented young players. It all gets underway this evening as Providence opens up their 2012-13 schedule against the Manchester Monarchs, the AHL affiliate of the defending Stanley Cup champion Los Angeles Kings.

Injuries:

Last Time We Met: Monarchs 2 , Bruins 5

– The last time the P-Bruins and Monarchs met on the ice was back on March 23, 2012 at the tail end of last year’s regular season. A four-point night from Justin Florek (2G/2A) would lead Providence to a 5-2 victory on home ice at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center.

Prediction: With a loaded lineup through the additions of Chris Bourque, Jordan Caron, Ryan Spooner, Torey Krug and Jared Knight, look for Providence to get things off on the right foot on Friday night with an impressive three-goal victory.

Monarchs  1 , Bruins 4
