What do you do if you’re an NHL team that is reeling after two horrible losses in a row? Why, of course…you get naked!
Tampa Bay Lightning players Ryan Malone and Jeff Halpern rounded up the boys after practice was complete on Tuesday and played a game of…wait for it… “Naked Shootout.” Malone decided to put the activity together to promote team unity, something he had done in college.
The rules? Players were to lose an article of equipment every time they failed to score on the Bolt goalies. Who was left standing in the cold at the end? It was diminutive winger Martin St. Louis.
Marty lost his helmet, elbow pads, gloves, jersey, leg pads, skates and socks before finally scoring. He even had to shoot with just one skate on, and then took his final shots while wearing sandals!

The best barb was thrown at the orally challenged forward Todd Fedoruk when he missed a breakaway. “Take out the rest of your teeth,” someone screamed.
Captain Vincent Lecavalier said, “The guys had a good time. Guys were laughing together.”
Game instigator Ryan Malone summed it up best, “But like you saw, it was a lot of fun out there. It was just something to do with some extra time; kind of lighten the mood. It’s always good to do stuff together.”
The Bolts face off with the San Jose Sharks at the Forum on Thursday night…hopefully with all their equipment on.

I have to agree that it’s great that a team can do things like this- to “promote team unity” is a good reason to do this, and I hope Tampa does achieve that.

haha I laughed when Marty was taking off his leg pads, reached toward his thigh and someone said “garter?”
It was the laugh I needed for the day. And you’re right- gotta let the little kid in us out every once in a while!
