Tampa Bay Lightning GM Brian Lawton said that the team could be in buying mode before the March 3rd trade deadline should they stay in playoff contention. In today’s St. Pete Times Lawton said, “We’re looking to be aggressive. That’s the way we’ve been preparing for the last month and a half as we see how the team is doing. Our people are out doing what they should be doing to prepare a team that hopefully stays in the hunt for a playoff spot.”
Lightning scouts were seen at the Avalanche – Thrashers and Flyers – Devils games on Wednesday night. Last night, the Thrashers had a scout at the Forum watching the Lightning.
Tampa Bay could certainly use a defenseman that can carry the puck and a scorer on the wing. If Paul Ranger makes it back, (Out for personal reasons since late October) might defenseman Andrej Meszaros be available to move? The Avalanche and Blackhawks are said to have shown interest in him.
