**Breaking News** Kyle Okposo Out Indefinitely

If Sunday’s news about Mark Streit wasn’t bad enough, the Islanders now have lost their second Alternate Captain this week to shoulder surgery. The team announced that Kyle Okposo will require surgery and is out indefinitely.
Losing Okposo is a huge blow as he plays in every situation and is a leader on the bench and the locker room. His absence will likely open a spot for a younger player to get more ice time, with players like Jesse Joensuu, Matt Martin, Nino Niederreiter, Rhett Rakhshani, and David Ullstrom all fighting to make the roster, each now has an enhanced opportunity to make the team.
In other news, General Manager Garth Snow has signed defenseman Mike Mottau to a 2 year 1 way deal. He will obviously play a role on this season’s team and will be added depth next season with players like Martinek, Gervais, Jurcina, and Wisniewski all on one year deals.
I hope to one day post a breaking news story and it actually be good news….

Any knews on petrov? Do u see them making trade w a team that needs to dump sal for some scoring? it seems like the need something
Interesting two major shoulder injuries and they haven’t played an exhibition game yet. We all know how Streit got injured any word on how Okposo was injured? Looks like once again they will be near the top of the league in man games lost to injury, you have to wonder about this, year after year, seems to be a pattern when does it stop being just “bad luck”.
Petrov is stuck in the KHL for the time being. I asked Garth Snow about him last week and he basically said Petrov’s agent is doing everything possible to get him out of his KHL deal.
I can’t say it’s impossible they make a salary dump trade, but Snow also said he wants to give his younger guys (Nino, Martin, Joensuu etc) an opportunity to make the club. I would say it’s more than likely one of those players take Kyle’s minutes for the meantime.
I don’t see Garth giving up on the season before it starts and if something made sense (ie the Mottau deal) i’m sure he’ll pull it off, but I think it’s safe to say, if Kyle has surgery…you wont see him until December at the earliest.

I agree….Streit was just a fluke thing, I saw it and it looked harmless at the time, but we all know what happened there.
I have no idea what happened to Kyle, I have a call into some people but no one really knows what happened to him nor the extent of the injury.
Other than one of the goalies going down….Okposo and Streit are the 2 most important players on this team, now both will miss extensive time.
Tony that Okposo injury seemed to have been hush hush from the very beginning, there was no word on how it happened, kind of makes you wonder how it happened.
It happened from playing hockey. ;)
I seemed to have missed that announcement Gallof when was it made by the organization?

Im very depressed about KO…This guy was gonna come out and have a break out season and how fun would’ve it been to watch???This blows, big time
Really???? You state this as fact that he was going to have a breakout season when in FACT no one really knows what kind of season he was going to have. Same goes for Tavares and the rest of the team you hope for the best but who knows???
