I think if the Sharks really believe in Greiss this should be his chance. They have quite a few goal-tending prospects who could be part of the team soon so they need to find out what Greiss can do with consistent playing time now.

You’re right about Couture bringing more offensively. He won’t replace Malhotra’s face-off proficiency or his penalty killing though.

how come no one talks about griess. he’s going to be playing around 30-40 games, with the possibility of taking over the number 1 spot. in the limited games last year he played well. also couture will get a lot more minutes this year and will be an offensive upgrade from malholtra.

Malhotra, Jed Ortmeyer, Jody Shelley, and Brad Staubitz will not be back in teal.

Thanks Adrian. There’s rumors they’re still looking to add to the D and they have the cap space (~$3 million).

I agree about Niittymaki, he’s absolutely the wildcard for this season. Sharks hope he thrives in the starting role the same way he did in the Olympics a few years back.

Tejus: Great update. I tend to rely on you now for SJS news. I had thought Wilson’s offer sheet to Hjalmarsson was bluffing, but after reading this, clearly not. He would have been a great add to the D.

Also, I wonder if Nittymaki will sink or swim if he wins the starting job. He was always someone’s backup in Philly (Biron) or TB last year. Wonder if he’ll put too much pressure on himself to not blow this chance to be on a legitimate contender finally.
