Carcillo Suspended 7 Games as Luck Turns for Hawks
Chicago Blackhawks forward Daniel Carcillo was given a seven-game suspension for his dangerous hit on Tom Gilbert of the Edmonton Oilers. The NHL’s top cop Brendan Shanahan spelled out the reasoning behind his verdict concerning Carcillo’s boarding infraction, saying Carcillo came in high and checked a player who was away from the boards and in [...]
Carcillo is still Carcillo as Oilers Top Hawks
Last week the Blackhawks closed out 2011 with one of their best efforts against a playoff-caliber team. On Monday, they opened 2012 with a dismal performance against the Edmonton Oilers, who are in 13th place in the Western Conference. The Blackhawks got what they deserved and fell to the Oilers 4-3. The Hawks were guilty [...]
Top 25 NHL defensive defensemen so far in 2011-12
One-third into the 2011-12 season, enough hockey has been played to give us a good idea of the best players so far this season. Now let’s have a look at the best defensive defensemen in the NHL this year. Those rearguards are often forgotten when we look at their team’s overall success, but they are [...]
The dawn of a new era in Edmonton
After selecting franchise-player Taylor Hall with the first overall pick in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft last Friday, the Edmonton Oilers have indicated they will buy out the contracts of former captain Ethan Moreau, Robert Nilsson and Patrick O’Sullivan tomorrow after putting them on waivers at noon earlier today, effectively turning the page on a [...]
Grebeshkov to the Predators – Tambellini is alive!!!
After 61 games and with the Oilers firmly entrenched in last place overall, Oilers general manager Steve Tambellini has finally decided to do something; he has moved Denis Grebeshkov to the Nashville Predators for a second round pick in this years draft. Not a big move by any means but for Oiler fans who were starting to feel as if Tambellini’s reign as GM would be nothing more than one loss after another with no signs from the man in charge that anything would ever change, at least this proves that Tambellini is still alive.
Game 50 review – Heartbreak against Big D
Just like Wednesday night Oiler fans at Rexall Place last night thought that the home team might just pull out a win and end their losing streak, but it just wasn’t meant to be and the streak continues – the Oilers have now lost 10 straight games.
Game 16 preview – Living without Horcoff
Shawn Horcoff will be out of the Oilers lineup for the next 7-10 days with a shoulder injury that he suffered on Monday night against the Islanders. Horcoff hasn’t pissed a drop this season offensively but his presence will be missed although certainly not on the score sheet. Even when he brings nothing in the offensive zone he is solid defensively, he wins faceoffs, and he sees a lot of ice time on the penalty kill. Those are hard things to replace.
Game 10 review – Another loss to the Flames
The games played in the Battle of Alberta are some of my favorites out of any season so you can imagine the pain that it’s causing me to see my beloved Oilers with a 0-2-1 record against the Flames. That all those losses have come in a short 22 day stretch is the equivalent of rubbing salt into the wound.
Game 3 preview – Is Quinn fooling with Calgary
So the geniuses that make the NHL schedule have the Oilers and Flames facing off for a second time this season tonight in Edmonton. I like the Battle of Alberta as much as anybody but twice in the first three games seems strange.
Game 1 review – Great game and a bad bounce
Normally I would review a game the day after the game. So why am I writing this two days later? Am I that lazy? Did I drink too many beers on Saturday night? Did I need an extra day to move on from the Khabibulin misplay that cost the Oil at least a point?
What Edmonton needs to do to make the playoffs
Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.
Why would I toss out that quote to start a post. Well the Oilers didn’t make the playoffs last season and they’re going into this season with almost the exact same lineup expecting a better result. Seems crazy doesn’t it?
How to make 23 out of 33 – Who gets cut in Edmonton
In a few hours the Oilers will take to the ice against the Lightning in their seventh preseason game of the year. After getting out of the gates to a 3-0 start, and with the city planning the parade route, the Oilers have dropped their last three. With the preseason into its third week we’re [...]
