Islanders Deadline Should Be Quiet…Or Will It?

Islanders Deadline Should Be Quiet…Or Will It?

You know, every time I think it’s going to be a busy deadline, nothing….and everytime I think it’s not going to be busy it is (see Ryan Smyth). This year is more of the same. As we all know Garth Snow has been shopping defenseman Radek Martinek, and Center Rob Schremp. He’s been listening to [...]

This is not how we want to see John Tavares. In my opinion, Milan Michalek should have been severly punished by someone wearing Islander colors. The message has to be deliever — you can't push us around!

Backchecking: “Thank you sir, may I have another?”

In the past two games, the New York Islanders have sent a clear message to the 29 other teams in the league. That message? “Thank you sir, may I have another?” Against the Penguins, the Isles were thrown around like rag dolls. Not the first time that has happened this season. Last night, John Tavares [...]

Kevin Poulin stops last years 1st overal draft pick Taylor Hall. Despite the loss, Poulin played very well in his NHL debut. We may want to get used to seeing Poulin more often, as well as Lawson, of Rick DiPietro's injury proves to be more serious. DiPietro was sent home for evaluation by the team, traveling in Colorado today.

Backchecking: Winning Some Games Through The Pain

If there is one thing that the New York Islanders have excelled at over the past 4 seasons — where they are among the league lead in the NHL and in fact the hockey world — injuries. The 2010-11 campaign is no different. The roller coaster season which started in solid fashion, also kicked off [...]

The Hope Diamond — Could it be shining on the Islanders?

Backchecking: Fading Islanders Finding A Few Gems?

It has been a little more then a week since my last last post. I think it has been at least that long since the last post concerning the Islanders by just about everyone. The franchise is quickly fading into oblivion not just in the NHL standings, but in the position of relevance in the [...]

Backchecking: Islanders Believe It Or Not

Backchecking: Islanders Believe It Or Not

After the fantastic round table that I participated in — thanks again to H.I. and all the participants — your insights were Excellent — I thought I would wait for a the end of the Boston and Atlanta games before my next post — to give the Islanders a chance and see how the week [...]

I think I am taking a huge chance that most of you wont understand the graphic I created above. If you need help with the reference, during the cold war a group of scientists created the "Doomsday Clock" as the two super powers, the U.S.A. and U.S.S.R stared each other down — pointing enough nuclear weapons at each other to blow us all up. Backchecking: 13 Minutes Before Midnight

Garth Snow, General Manager of the New York Islanders has announced in a recent press conference that in the past week, reality has hit the New York Islanders with a bad loss to the Panthers in Florida, and back-to-back losses in the home and home to the Habs of Montréal. “With 3 consecutive losses, the [...]

Training Camp…A Day At Iceworks

Training Camp…A Day At Iceworks

As I was on my way to cover my first training camp this morning, I tried to think about how the day would go and what I should expect. Watch some hockey, take some notes, get some quotes. Well, all three were true, but a little differently than I thought. First of all, when the [...]

The Foreseeable Future: Mainstays and Cast Aways

The Foreseeable Future: Mainstays and Cast Aways

As this blogger looks into his crystal ball, it would appear there is some writing on the wall as “year two” of the New York Islanders overhaul is coming to a close. There have been some pleasant surprises this season, and also some let downs. The rosters have been frozen for the Olympic break but [...]

Brodeur…shutout…zzzz…huh?!?

Brodeur…shutout…zzzz…huh?!?

by Brenna Solop Usually when the words “Brodeur” and “shutout” are mentioned in the same sentence, it’s because Marty notched another one in the record books. But this time the door was shut on Brodeur – and the rest of his Devils – with the Islanders blanking New Jersey 4-0. Funny, I thought about going [...]

Communication Breakdown

Communication Breakdown

by Brenna Solop Time to vent and take out the frustration on the keyboard. The last three games I’ve subjected myself to, I’ve watched the Islanders get outscored 16-5. It’s getting a little aggravating. They are a big, swirling, flailing mess right now. I have five more games scheduled to go to and had every [...]

RAISING THE TITANIC: The Isles Rise Against The Odds

RAISING THE TITANIC: The Isles Rise Against The Odds

Don’t look now, but the Islanders have lifted from the depth like the carcass of the Titanic, and are tied at 23 points with a dropping NY Rangers and the Philly Flyers. The Isles, however, were not expected to win a cup like either team. If anything, the other two teams are disappointing their fan [...]

After 4 Games…

After 4 Games…

After 4 games this is what I’ve learned about the Isles  Joel Rechlicz is the this year’s version of Mitch Fritz.   Last season, Scott Gordon stated he wasn’t going to carry a enforcer that can’t play a regular shift. So of course when Trent Hunter goes down, they bring up Joel Rechlicz. The Wrecker, will [...]

Schremp will get his chance on the island

Schremp will get his chance on the island

Yesterday I suggested that it would be a good idea for the Isles to take a chance on Schremp after the Oilers placed him on waivers. Well according to Bob McKenzie the Islanders have done just that and since they finished dead last in the league last year they will be getting him.

Oilers trim roster by 5 including Schremp

Oilers trim roster by 5 including Schremp

Following the Oilers 5-4 overtime win against the Canucks the Oilers reduced their roster by five, bringing the total players left in camp to 27, by sending Brennan, Chorney, Dubnyk, and Shremp to the Springfield Falcons. Eberle was sent back to the Regina Pats. No big surprises with this round of cuts.

Oilers start season in Calgary

Oilers start season in Calgary

More than five months I have been waiting for Oilers hockey, five months. For any hockey at all it has been almost three months. Finally that ended last night as the Canucks and Isles played; tonight the Oil kick of their preseason schedule in Calgary. The game means absolutely nothing in the standings but its [...]
