Predators Leave St. Louis Blue
4-0. That is the Predators season record against the St. Louis Blues. Looking at that record, one would think that the Predators have had an easy go of it against the Blues. But as tonight’s game at the Bridgestone Arena showed games against the Blues are anything but a cakewalk. War is the appropriate term. [...]
Red Wings Beat Blues 3-1 in Central Division Clash
The Detroit Red Wings (33-15-1) won their seventh game in a row and 17th straight on home ice when they beat the St. Louis Blues 3-1 in a Central Division clash at the Joe Louis Arena. The Red Wings now have some breathing room in the standings department. Not only do they have a three-point [...]
Predators Stop St. Louis for the Third Time
The Nashville Predators brought a depleted line up to Scott Trade Center to take on the St. Louis Blues in the final contest of 2011. The Predators were without Shea Weber, Kevin Klein, and a late scratch, Colin Wilson, who was ruled out with and upper body injury. Pekka Rinne was in net for the [...]
Detroit Red Wings Week in Review
After 19 games, the Detroit Red Wings are currently 11-7-2 with 19 points in the Central Division and trail the Chicago Blackhawks by only four points for first place; the Blackhawks have played two more games than the Red Wings. Goaltender Jimmy Howard has been the best player on the team so far this season [...]
Red Wings Sing the Blues in St. Louis 2-1
The Detroit Red Wings hoped to continue their winning ways on the road, but they ran into a stingy St. Louis Blues team that have found new life under recently-hired head coach Ken Hitchcock. Things didn’t go the Red Wings’ way as they lost to the Blues 2-1, snapping their four-game winning streak. The Blues [...]
Blues Send Brad Boyes to Buffalo
It’s not just bad weather blowing around St. Louis. The trade winds have kicked up once again around 14th and Clark as Doug Armstrong sends another prominent rebuild era fixture packing. Trading right winger Brad Boyes to the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for a 2nd Round pick in the 2011 draft. The Blues obtained [...]
The Dollars In & Out of the Blues Blockbuster Trade
The after effects of the blockbuster deal between the St. Louis Blues and Colorado Avalanche have been most obvious on the ice. What about off the ice? Not just in the “human element” way of leaving a home and good friends in a familiar locker room behind for a new experience. What about the financial [...]
Blues & Avalanche Make Blockbuster Deal
Last last night, following the Blues 3-0 dominating performance over the Buffalo Sabres, General Manager Doug Armstrong was busy wheeling and dealing. Talking to the Colorado Avalanche about a old fashioned “hockey trade”. The outcome of said discussions being a blockbuster of a deal. Sending franchise defenseman Erik Johnson, forward Jay McClement and a conditional 1st round pick to the Avalanche for Blues killing forward Chris Stewart, defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk and a conditional 2nd round pick.
Blues vs. Flames Gameday | Tarasenko Injured
Quick Blues @ Avs Thoughts There is little that can be said regarding the St. Louis Blues 4-3 loss to Colorado on Monday. Not because it was a boring game or anything of the sort. Just that the play of the Blues was standard issue for the month of January. If I’ve put it in [...]
Not So Hot January | Blues vs. Avs Gamenotes | Is Erik Johnson Really Trade Bait?
January’s Missed Opportunity The month of January is proving to be a new low point for the St. Louis Blues. After a successful battle through a depth deprived December, the Blues looked forward to a big opportunity in the new year. Roman Polak was back. Long term injuries to key forwards could clear up. The [...]
Canadiens set to face former teammate Ryan O’Byrne
After losing 5-3 to the Philadelphia Flyers on Wednesday and winning 4-3 against the Boston Bruins on Thursday, the Canadiens chartered a plane to Colorado yesterday, where they will visit the Avalanche and former teammate Ryan O’Byrne tonight at 8 PM Eastern time. O’Byrne, who was traded for forward Michael Bournival in early November, has [...]
Avalanche Wildly Inconsistent
The Colorado Avalanche are starting to get healthy again. Perhaps a few players recently back from injuries are a bit rusty still. That might explain the inconsistency of play as of late. But in truth, this team has displayed this tendency going back to last season. It’s still presumable that it is a product of [...]
Blues Lose 6-3 to Avalanche | Defense Cracking Under Pressure | Evil Emprire Next
The St. Louis Blues skid reaches four games as the defense cracks under pressure. It doesnt get any easier with Detroit next up. Blues News and Notes.
NHL Names Stamkos Player of the Month
Tampa Bay Lightning superstar center, Steven Stamkos was named player of the month for October by the NHL. Bruins goaltender, Tim Thomas was the runner-up and Avalanche winger Chris Stewart finished third. Here is what the NHL said about Stammer: Stamkos led all players in scoring with 19 points (nine goals, 10 assists) in 10 [...]
Matt Duchene – Tough Guy
In an interview at this morning’s skate, Colorado Avalanche center, Matt Duchene responded to the question of his recent feistiness in training camp. Duchene admits that he is acting a little tougher out there on the ice. And a lot of the fans in attendance at the Avalanche Burgundy and White charity game got an [...]
Top 10 RFAs still unsigned
With September looming and about one month until NHL training camps resume for the upcoming season, a plethora of talented restricted free agents remain unsigned by their respective teams. Why is this happening so widely in the NHL? The salary cap is certainly one of the main reasons, but several teams like the Carolina Hurricanes [...]
Avs as Ugly as a Great White
That was about the ugliest game I’ve seen this team play. As an Avs fan I’m tempted to think that the Avs made the Sharks look good. If I’m a Sharks fan I’ve got to be thinking, “Finally, a dominating performance!” Realistically it’s in between. The Avs really let the Sharks take it to them [...]
Vice Versa
The inconsistency of the Los Angeles Kings continues as the club attempts to find it’s stride heading into the second season within the NHL.
The Curious Case of Marek Svatos
Svatos seems to be playing his NHL career in a rather curious fashion. Svats first year in the league saw him playing like a crafty veteran, slipping between the defense to set up in front of the net. Snipping was his game and he was good at it, putting up 32 goals in the 2005-06 [...]
Avs Hammer the Oil
After a great performance on Saturday against the New Jersey Devils, Avs fans were wondering if this team would keep their foot on the pedal against the Oil or play down to the competition. Going into tonight’s game against the Oil I couldn’t help but be a bit surprised by this quote by Ethan Moreau, [...]
