Bruins Come From Behind To Beat Sabres 4-3 In Season-Ending Shootout
BOSTON– On Saturday afternoon in Boston, the Bruins and Sabres played in a hockey game with less meaning than Spring Training baseball action in the sunny state of Florida. With the B’s already locked into the Eastern Conference’s number two seed, and the Sabres left to plan spring tee times, it was an exhibition contest [...]
GameDay: Bruins Look To End Skid Against Stingy St. Louis Club
Starting with tonight I’ve decided to switch up the style of my “GameDay” from here on Hockey Independent. I hope you all like the new format! Teams: Boston Bruins at St. Louis Blues Records: Boston 35-20-2 (72 Points) , St. Louis 36-16-7 (79 Points) Location: Scottrade Center, St. Louis, Missouri Time: 8 P.M. (EST) TV/Radio [...]
Tampa Bay Lightning Week in Review – Introducing The Quarterdeck Log
The Tampa Bay Lightning are 5-4-2 with 12 points through eleven games. After eleven games last season, the Bolts were 7-2-2 with 16 points. The Lightning are in third place in the Southeast Division, tied with Florida, two points behind the Washington Capitals and seventh in the Eastern Conference. After eleven games, forward Steven Stamkos leads the team in goals with [...]
Flyers Polish Off Sabres 5-2 Finish The Series
Thank God it’s over! My Flyers played the way they were capable of, got bounces and made shots, chased Buffalo goalie Ryan Miller and polished off the Buffalo Sabres 5-2 in Game 7 of a back-and-forth series that was full of surprises. Philly won both the first and second periods tonight, dominating in the first [...]
Flyers Comeback Again Tie Series In OT
My Flyers overcame two 2-goal deficits and fought off an early end to the season thanks to an overtime goal by Ville Leino, beating the Sabres 5-4. The game started badly for the Flyers, with starting goalie Michael Leighton giving up three goals on the first eight shots, all of them arguably softies, before being [...]
Flyers Stage Comeback But Lose In OT to Buffalo
My Flyers had to be feeling good going into tonight’s game, but the Sabres won 4-3 in overtime after blowing a 3-0 lead they built up in the 1st. Brian Boucher gave up two softies to help put the Flyers in the hole with Tyler Ennis scoring from a bad angle and Thomas Vanek scoring [...]
Miller Stones Flyers, Series Tied 2-2
My Flyers couldn’t finish again and lost 1-0, but unlike Game 1 where they lost by the same score, tonight they peppered Sabre goalie Ryan Miller with some great shots and he was able to stop every one of them. Jason Pominville scored the only goal of the game midway through the 1st due to [...]
Flyers Continue To Make Shots, Take 2-1 Series Lead
Good positioning around the net by winger and recent healthy scratch Nik Zherdev proved to be the difference as my Flyers win again, 4-2 over the Sabres. An energized Jeff Carter, popping one on the power play, and Danny Briere made quick wrist shots up high beating Ryan Miller and Buffalo got their scoring from [...]
Flyers Make Shots, Get Bounces Win Game 2
My Flyers bounced back, playing much closer to the game they need to, and beat the Sabres 5-4. Key to the Flyer victory was their centers outplayed Buffalo’s, Claude Giroux, going high and beating Ryan Miller, and Danny Briere knocking in a rebound. The top 3 Sabre centers were held scoreless, but Sabres left wing [...]
It’s my Flyers versus the Sabres . . . . again!
It’s my Flyers versus the Sabres . . . . again! This is their seventh meetup since 1995, (3-3 split going in) and I can honestly say none of the series have been very good. They’ve been walk-overs one way or the other, dull or painful. Easy first round wins or first round humiliating embarrassments, [...]
Blues Send Brad Boyes to Buffalo
It’s not just bad weather blowing around St. Louis. The trade winds have kicked up once again around 14th and Clark as Doug Armstrong sends another prominent rebuild era fixture packing. Trading right winger Brad Boyes to the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for a 2nd Round pick in the 2011 draft. The Blues obtained [...]
St. Louis Blues Trade Deadline FAQ
It’s darn near impossible to avoid trade chatter these days. Fans want to know what’s going on and how ripples across the league may effect their team. Hockey gods know they’re never afraid of asking questions. The great proliferation of information just makes it that much easier. For bloggers and MSM members alike, we have [...]
The Dollars In & Out of the Blues Blockbuster Trade
The after effects of the blockbuster deal between the St. Louis Blues and Colorado Avalanche have been most obvious on the ice. What about off the ice? Not just in the “human element” way of leaving a home and good friends in a familiar locker room behind for a new experience. What about the financial [...]
Blues & Avalanche Make Blockbuster Deal
Last last night, following the Blues 3-0 dominating performance over the Buffalo Sabres, General Manager Doug Armstrong was busy wheeling and dealing. Talking to the Colorado Avalanche about a old fashioned “hockey trade”. The outcome of said discussions being a blockbuster of a deal. Sending franchise defenseman Erik Johnson, forward Jay McClement and a conditional 1st round pick to the Avalanche for Blues killing forward Chris Stewart, defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk and a conditional 2nd round pick.
Blues Gameday: One More in Florida
Times are getting tougher and the St. Louis Blues (23-20-8, 54 Points) must rise to the occasion and take down a “never say die” Florida Panthers (23-23-6, 52 Points) outfit fighting for their playoff lives as well. If you thought the game on Sunday had an unusually high sense of urgency for an inter-conference match [...]
Just Sayin: Petro Ahead of EJ? | Backes & Selke | Stamkos Dominant | Conklin Trade Rumor?
For a full recap of the St. Louis Blues 4-3 OT loss Sunday to the Tampa Bay Lightning, please check out BlueNoteZone.com. – Just Sayin’… – It’s time to say Alex Pietrangelo is a more effective hockey player than Erik Johnson, today. Statistically they may not be far off, but the difficult to quantify intangibles [...]
Blues vs. Flames Gameday | Tarasenko Injured
Quick Blues @ Avs Thoughts There is little that can be said regarding the St. Louis Blues 4-3 loss to Colorado on Monday. Not because it was a boring game or anything of the sort. Just that the play of the Blues was standard issue for the month of January. If I’ve put it in [...]
Questioning The Cornerstone? | Major Injury Update & Trade Ramifications | Claim Nabakov?
Just Saying… Erik Johnson Some days Erik Johnson just can’t win for losing. In the Blues 4-3 OT loss to the Evil Empire the brain vapor miscues began and ended with the top pick in 2006 Patrick Eaves game opening goal came on a quick feed by Henrik Zetterberg from the far wall to the [...]
Oshie’s Return Sparks 2-1 Win Over LA | McDonald Skates | Trade Rumor Variables
What A Difference An Oshie Makes There is no “I” in “Team”, but there is a “me”. Meaning it takes individuals knowing their job and executing plays within their role. Not taking on the opponent like a counter productive one man show. Last night’s 2-1 St. Louis Blues victory over the Los Angeles Kings is [...]
Blues Back to Back Recap + Bluenotes
Just like night and day, the St. Louis Blues performances against the Anaheim Ducks and LA Kings were very different. The 7-4 loss to the Ducks was a perpetuation of the same trends miring the Blues below the waterline. Great stretches of play where little playing was to be found. Far too many passengers on [...]
