Capitals Sign Center Cody Eakin

 

ARLINGTON, Va., – The Washington Capitals have signed center Cody Eakin, their third-round choice in the 2009 Entry Draft, to a three-year entry-level contract, vice president and general manager George McPhee announced today. In keeping with club policy, financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

 

Eakin, 19, is a 5’11”, 180-pound native of Winnepeg, Manitoba, who is in his fourth season with the Swift Current Broncos of the Western Hockey League (WHL). He has 12 points (nine goals, three assists) in nine games this season, and is Swift Current’s leading goal scorer. He is tied for first in the WHL with five power-play goals and tied for second in the league in overall goals scored.

 

Eakin recorded 48 points (24 goals, 24 assists) in 54 games for the Broncos last season. He participated in the Capitals’ development camp this summer as well as the team’s rookie and training camps in September.
