Montreal Canadiens lose Michael Cammalleri to right knee injury

The Montreal Canadiens lost sniper Michael Cammalleri Saturday afternoon when he went hard into the boards after colliding with defenseman Anton Volchenkov, his leg buckling under him.

The injury did not look good at all, and Cammy was unable to put any weight on his right leg. At first glance, it looks like he both injured his right ankle and right knee and it could lead to lengthy absence. Update: the injury is to his right knee.

Cammalleri was scheduled to undergo an MRI yesterday or today to know about the extent of the injury; however, we are still awaiting the details on the injury. Sportsnet revealed that, while the injury will keep him out of the lineup for an extended period of time, Cammalleri is not done for the season. I’ll keep you updated on the situation all day long.

Cammy has played all 56 games for the Canadiens this year, recording 26 goals and 22 assists. The Richmond Hill, ON native was only one of five Canadiens to have played in every game this season.

To replace him in the line-up, the Canadiens have recalled forward Matt D’Agostini from the Hamilton Bulldogs of the AHL, who was on a two-week conditiong stint. D’Agostini notched one point in three goals since he was sent down to Hamilton.

Bob Gainey is likely awaiting the results of the MRI before making another move to compensate Cammalleri’s injury and improve his anemic offense.
