Game 40 preview – When lousy teams play does anyone care?

I wonder if when the Oilers found out that TSN would be covering the Senators/Avalanche game tonight if they were excited. This would, after all, allow the Oilers to put the game on pay per view and bring in some extra revenue from die hard Leaf fans who couldn’t get tickets as well as the usual contingent of Oiler fans.
But when the teams are the second (the Oilers) and third (the Leafs) worst teams in the league will anyone actually care enough to pay for the game? If I didn’t already have tickets I know I wouldn’t. I always threaten to sell my ticket because Leaf fans irritate me so much but I never follow though on the threat. In this case I guess thats a good thing. Maybe, I’m not really sure.
Tonight the Oilers are looking to kick their losing streak that now sits at seven games. I guess if you’re going to beat anyone a team almost as bad as you gives you just about as good a chance as any. The Leafs aren’t great on the road and the Oilers aren’t great at home – or anywhere else for that matter – so this could go either way tonight. The one thing you can bet on is that it will be ugly to watch.
I can’t find word on the starter tonight but I hope to see Dubnyk again tonight with a game in Calgary tomorrow night. I’d rather see Deslauriers get the start in that one if he’s only going to play in one of the two. Dubnyk gave up seven goals in his first NHL start but that wasn’t all him, his team didn’t help out much at all. There is no way his team could hang him out to dry worse than they did against the Blues. Well there is probably no way. This is the Oilers we’re taking about after all.
Beyond a change between the pipes I don’t see the Oilers making any lineup changes tonight. They’re about as healthy as they’re ever going to be. The lone exception is Comrie who is still recovering from a bout of mono.
When I’m betting on an NFL game and it’s close I default to the home team. In this case I’ll do the same. I see a 4-2 Oiler win, the fourth goal will be an empty netter.

About the Author: I'm a life long fan of hockey, especially the Oilers. The primary purpose of my day job is to get money to support my addiction to the Oil. Between season seats, beer, and merchandise I shudder to think about how much money I feed into Oiler coffers every year.
My addiction to the Oil knows no bounds, when I got married in Mexico the whole trip had to be shifted after everything was booked so that I'd be back for the Mark Messier jersey retirement. My wife is very understanding and I'm in a good place with my addiction right now so I see no reason to change anything.
