More Coverage of the Flames Prospect Camp.

Some of my thoughts on the prospects that I noticed this morning.

40 Giffen Nyren

Giffen is a terrific skater. In fact, he may very be the fastest skater on the team. He was having trouble controlling the puck when did the puck handling drills without looking at the puck. Despite the bad day Giffen had, he really has impressed me with his skill. I really hope the Flames sign him to an AHL contract.

43 Keith Seabrook

Keith had a great day today. He was the best with the puck and the skating drills today. He has great skating ability, he is fast and smooth. Most people feel that Keith is small, but he is built like a tank and it’s hard to take him off his feet. He hits hard, he plays hard, He is a no-nonsense defenseman.

80 Alex Deilert

Alex is a very good skater. He has the possibility of becoming an explosive offense- and defenseman. His major problem is losing control the puck. In the skating with the puck drills, he was losing concentration and at times over-skating the puck. In the offensive zone, he has a knack of being at the right spot at the right time. Alex is a very gifted offense- and defensemen. Deilert needs to overcome his weakness in the defensive zone.

54 Chris Breen

Chris is a movable object, no other word describes him. He will only get stronger and bigger. He may never be a fast, smooth skating defenseman; that is not the reason why the Calgary Flames drafted him. He is a solid, stay-at-home defenseman who plays grit and will clear the front of the net in a hurry. The bottom line is that it might take a while, but he could become a solid number four defenseman.

51 Tim Erixon

There is little doubt that Tim will be an NHL calibre defensemen. Tim was pretty impressive today, though he had a little trouble with puck skating drills. He is great with the puck, he just needs to concentrate a little bit more and he’ll be fine. Erixon has a great shot with a quick release. He is very comfortable in the defensive zone. I have very few complaints about this kid.

47 Jon Rheault

Jon has speed to burn. He is a very fast skater. Jon is particularly gifted with the puck. He is a gifted offensive hockey player. I can see him as a future top six forward for the Calgary Flames. He does not let his size stop him. Jon is a lot stronger than you think. He is a terrific hockey player.

71 Gaelan Patterson

Patterson has tons of speed, if he can learn to use it. He needs to build strength, but he has the hands to get it done. He has to get stronger with the puck to improve as a player. If the Flames will be patient with him, his growth will be sure to continue.

79 Michael Ferland

Michael has a good shot with decent speed. Michael’s puck-control skills were pretty decent, but he still has to work on his strength and ability to control the puck. He has the offensive potential of a sniper, but he is a diamond in the rough at this time.

60 Mikael Backlund

Mikael is by far the most gifted prospect the Flame have. He is strong and very smart with the puck. He thinks 5 moves ahead. He knows where to be in the offensive zone. He is a very smart hockey player, who can score and is one of the best pure passers in the League.

52 Mitch Wahl

Mitch has a great shot and is extremely accurate. This kid has plenty offensive skill and is very smart wit. the puck. He is a great passer, with tons of potential of being a top scoring forward. This kid will be a good one.

74 Hugo Carpentier

Hugo is a very hard worker and never quits. He is a solid skater, and is strong. He is a third line center who can put in the odd goal to help with the offensive scheme. Hugo is the kind of guy whom really you want to achieve; he just does not quit on a play.

48 Greg Nemisz

Greg really has ton of skill, but has to show it. He has not really shined in this camp. I know he has the skill, because I see it once in a while.

72 C.J. Severyn

CJ has great speed, and will work hard for his goals. His determination reminds me of Nystrom. He has to mature a bit more if he wants the potential to be a solid third line winger.

39 Bryan Cameron

Bryan has to improve on his skating. He has tons of potential. I like his shot, and he has a quick release. He has trouble at times with the accuracy on his shot. He has trouble with the puck at times and needs to get stronger with the puck.

58 Nick Larson

Nick has a great shot, especially his wrist shot. He is gifted offensively and is great with the puck. However, at times he is caught out of position in the defensive zone. I really think he could be a keeper.

Your analysis of Alex Deilert is spot on! I am quietly excited about him! And I really hope Nyren can grow because his speed and footwork is prime! and I would hate to see it wasted. Great blog Randy
