Fair points Al, and I'm looking forward to your blog.

As for Nabokov, I have to wonder, does he plan on staying in San Jose past this season? Because you have to think that if he hits the market he might get one hell of a contract that the Sharks might not be able to match, cap-wise.

Prax,

I think they would trade Turco if they could....but they probably won't put him on waivers.

I have some thoughts about Nabokov..I will save for blog coming soon.

I have spoken to someone very close to the Sharks and he has said Nabokov has never had a better a season...

George, all good points. I would also welcome your comments on my own trade deadline piece:

Al, I definitely see your point about Turco, but let's not forget that there are only 20ish games left in the season so the salary would be reduced. If they can save SOME money in a trade, I would definitely have to think that the Stars would jump on it, and I think that Marty could provide some good depth for certain teams heading into the playoffs.

As for the talk about Nabokov, it may just be a hunch, but if I was Wilson, I would start asking myself questions about whether Nabokov is the goalie for that franchise going into the future, considering everything up to you and including last night against Canada. With a lot of good goalies on the market and becoming free agents in the summer, maybe it's time for a change in San Jose?

Finally, Dave, I definitely see your point about the Habs, trust me, I cover them for HI and my own site and I've been following them as closely as ever this season. But something kind of clicked when Gauthier took over as GM, and it was that the only logical reason I would see Gainey stepping down mid-season was that the Molsons asked him to trade one of the goalies, and he refused. At least the BIG reason, if you catch my drift. Maybe someone higher up in the organization thinks that the team needs to go with ONE goaltender... and while personally i think there's no harm in keeping both for the moment, I also think that it might be the best time to trade one of them, in terms of what kind of return they can get.
All I know is to expect the unexpected, and that the trade rumors simply won't go away.

I guess we'll see!

George, good article.

From my vantage point here, close to the Montreal hockey scene, it appears the likelihood of either Halak or Price being dealt is slim. Anything is possible, but the Habs need to get to the playoffs, and changing goalies might not be the thing Gauthier has in mind. When June comes around, it's probably a different story.

I don't see Ken Holland dumping Osgood, not after Ozzy has been such a valuable member of the Wings.

As for Nabokov, I would be surprised if Doug Wilson abandons him...but who knows? Wilson has some big decisions coming up in June.

Ellis, is, based on his current play and past playoff performance, as well as his low cap hit, a very interesting option.

Great point on Nabokov being a choker, while he did not have much a chance on most of the goals last night well I was sure happy he was in net over Bryzgalov. I can not consider Nabokov a "clutch" goaltender and he proves it year after year.

On re-entry a team like the Sharks could claim him.

I heard their GM say on Xm he would not carry three goalies.

Joe N. wants to do the right thing for Turco...he won't embarass him...probably has been trying to strike a deal but no takers.

As you probably know they are having financing problems, they can't take back a lot of money to make a deal work.

Ya I mentioned that. I still believe there's a possibility Turco will be moved. Maybe Auld on waivers is just a cap move, a temporary solution?
