Flyers Win, Emery Out For 6 Weeks, Witt defeats GMC Yukon

Just a quick hit, as I got home very late from the game:

-Big props to Islanders defenseman Brendan Witt, who was hit by a GMC Yukon in Center City Philadelphia as he went to get a cup of coffee. Onlookers were impressed with Witt’s toughness, but upset when he got away with a blatant elbow on a Jeep Liberty later in the shift.

-Ray Emery apparently injured his abdominal area during a 3-2 loss to the Buffalo Sabres on November 27th. Why the Hell did the team take the “rehab it and keep playing” approach? This raises some serious questions about the competency of the Flyers medical staff…AGAIN. Emery has a torn muscle and will undergo surgery tomorrow

-The Flyers stars played like stars tonight in a 6-2 drubbing of the New York Islanders. Jeff Carter and Mike Richards each tallied twice and played very strong overall games.

-Discipline-or at least staying out of the box-marred an otherwise great game for Peter Laviolette’s boys tonight. Chris Pronger hit John Tavares from behind-kinda-and Tavares went full Shakespearean to draw a call on Pronger. My guess is that played a roll later on when Tavares got into a bit of a scrap with Scott Hartnell near the Isles net, and Pronger, in his haste, shoved goalie Martin Biron out of the way like a rag doll.

The Wachovia Center video crew delighted in showing that replay at least 8 times.

-The question now facing the Flyers is should they grab a stop gap while Emery is out? Maybe they can entice somebody to take the walking Ten Minute Misconduct Dan Carcillo for a solid stopgap. Of course if there is any damned justice in this world, Ty Conklin will be a Flyer by Thursday’s game.

-I did pop my father-in-law’s Hockey Cherry tonight. He had a great time and was impressed with Brendan Witt’s defeat of a Yukon and showed great hockey acumen when he gave me this scouting report on Biron: “This guy sucks!”
