Memo to the Avs: Red Wings Healthy Again

Much to the Avs fans consternation, the 3rd jerseys, a.k.a. the Blueberries seem to be the customary threads on alumni night. So show up to see your favorite Avalanche players of the past and then watch the young and talented Avs of today struggle under the weight of these cursed sweaters.
The youthful energy managed to get the Avs out of the early 2-0 hole they dug for themselves, but it couldn’t save them from the interludes of lackluster play throughout the game.
The Avs can’t claim an Olympic hangover unless you want to blame Budaj for being asleep at the door on some of the slow changes. Yeah, that’s the ticket.
No, the Avs are still a young team that is still learning how to play in these challenging situations. Whether it’s recovering from the highs and lows of Olympic hockey the previous day or spending two weeks idle, the veterans on the Wings handled it better tonight.
The Avs got a couple lucky breaks; a no-goal as the result of a goalie interference and later yet another phantom goalie interference call.
On the bright side Craig Anderson is clearly getting a little more referee respect than he did early in the season. Team after team chose to run Anderson and the ref’s looked the other way. Andy, now a respected and refined actor in his crease is beginning to get the benefit of the doubt.
This isn’t the beat up Red Wings that the Avs faced early this season, hence a little luck is welcome but the boys needed to work a little harder.
