Guerin gets tryout from Flyers

Guerin is officially on a tryout deal with the Philadelphia Flyers. This is all contrary to what Guerin’s agent, Bob Murray told the media over a week ago. Murray told media members that he and his client were only looking for a contract, not a tryout offer.

Flyers GM Paul Holmgren confirmed Monday night that Guerin approached him and asked for the tryout.

“I’m not sure what changed but Billy is looking at our team and now he has an opportunity to see if he can make the team,” Holmgren said. “Billy came to me today.”
 
Guerin, who will turn 40 this November, has been skating at the Flyers practice facility in Voorhees NJ since the beginning of September. Last week, Guerin scrimmaged with over 30 Flyers players.

Guerin was released by the Pittsburgh Penguins on August 27th and since been seen only around the Flyers camp.

“Right now I’m just kind of skating and being around the guys,” Guerin told the Courier-Post Thursday. “This is a team I would definitely like to play for, but we’ll see.”

The Flyers’ roster is lacking veteran depth and leadership, something Guerin could definitely provide if he lands a roster spot.

“He has lots of experience and has been a good player for a long, long time so, it certainly should pick up competition in camp,” Holmgren said.
