This summer is one to look forward to, for the Blackhawks and their fans.

With the prospect camp July 9-12 in Chicago at Johnny’s Ice House, there’s also an opportunity for Hawks fans to see some of the new talent.

excellent piece, with one exception. Scratch Tallon and replace with McDonaugh and then it’s accurate.

…as a postscript re: Jimmy Hayes, he’s a 20 yr old right winger who checks in at 6’5″/210.

“Hayes has a big body, works hard and plays very well in a team concept. With his size, you expect Hayes to be a punishing power forward. While he’s not going to shy away from the tough stuff, he is really known for his hands and work around the net. He is a big, strong, forward who is learning to use his power as he continues to grow into his frame. He is also noted as fast skater with very big and long strides.”

Sounds promising…

Mark Kelly, the Hawks’ Director of Amateur Scouting who did excellent work during his previous tenure in Pittsburgh, noted that Chicago made big players a factor in its selections.

“Size is always good. We say going into the draft we want to make sure, when we average it out, we have good size. (Kevin) Hayes is 6-2 1/2 and going to get taller, and then we got his brother. And then it kept coming. Holl has good size and he’s a terrific skater. Johns has great size, he’s a really good skater. The Flick kid (fourth-round pick Rob Flick) has real good size (6-2, 205).”

With the kids in the minor ranks getting bigger and faster, we’re seeing more hockey players built like linebackers.

Rob>thanks for reminding me…I wasn’t sure what to make of the Jimmy Hayes acquistion, but it does give rise to the question of another ‘brother act’ in Chicago.

A little too early though, to think of the Hayes boys as being comparable to the Hull or Bentley brothers.
