More Solid Effort Tonight In Raleigh

More Solid Effort Tonight In Raleigh

I’m not gonna get too involved in the discussion about tonight’s game, but hey anything was better than the brutal no show they pulled last night at home.  This one down in Raleigh was much better effort all around for them and what do you know, they won 2-1.  They got good efforts from the [...]

Penguins 2000-2009: A decade of low lows and high highs

Penguins 2000-2009: A decade of low lows and high highs

Math nerds will incessantly interrupt our New Year’s Eve parties tonight by reminding us that the decade doesn’t actually end until next year.  Of course they are correct, but there is still something special when it comes to marking time, knowing that after midnight, the third number of the year will change for the first [...]

Avalanche Fans Want a Winter Classic in Denver

Avalanche Fans Want a Winter Classic in Denver

Chris Botta over at FanHouse talks a little about the dangers and fears that the NHL face when staging an outdoor event.  If you don’t live in the Denver area you might think it’s too warm here to host the Winter Classic.  Even some people that live here don’t think that it would be a [...]

Team USA Thoughts and Remembering The Past

Team USA Thoughts and Remembering The Past

It is going to be interesting to see which way Brian Burke goes. Burke is probably going to lean toward the win it now formula so he may leave off some of my choices and go with a few more veterans. In my view some of the younger players are performing well enough to deserve a shot.  [...]

Couch Potato Finalist Loves Hockey

Couch Potato Finalist Loves Hockey

Most of us who love lying around and watching sports on TV can be considered couch potatoes although we don’t relish the title. Those competing for the 8th Annual Ultimate Couch Potato Championship at Chicago’s ESPN Zone on January 1 embrace the challenge of being crowned a champion.  There will be four Chicagoans vying for [...]

Bergeron Makes Team Canada and My Team USA Roster

Bergeron Makes Team Canada and My Team USA Roster

Well congratulations are in order for Patrice Bergeron. After not even being invited to the Canadian Olympic Camp this summer, the Bruin’s pivot has worked his way onto Team Canada. It is quite an accomplishment since two years ago many questioned if he would ever play again, after the vicious hit from behind by Randy [...]

The Bruins chased Ondrej Pavelec (right) from the game in the first period for the second straight game on their way to a 4-1 win in Boston

Rask Leads The Way As B’s Crush Thrashers

In a final tune-up before the 2010 Winter Classic, the Boston Bruins took to the ice of the TD Garden to face-off against the Atlanta Thrashers and wasted no time in putting this one to bed. The Bruins, coming off a frustrating loss in Tampa Bay that snapped a three-game win streak for the black-and-gold [...]

Thanks to the Rangers for Not Showing Up To Play Tonight

Thanks to the Rangers for Not Showing Up To Play Tonight

Sitting down and writing this entry tonight, I’m at a loss for words since I can’t figure out this team and apparently, they can’t figure out themselves either.  They went out there tonight and played one of the worst games I have ever seen whether in person or on TV and this after they played [...]

Barry Trotz: A Class Act

Barry Trotz: A Class Act

While Predator fans were enjoying a 2-0 victory over the Montreal Canadiens at the Sommet Center on November 14th, a very classy gesture occurred that got no notice. It was a gesture that I think epitomizes the character of the one who did it and provides a glimpse into why the Predators have enjoyed the [...]

I’m with Samuelsson, the Loser Point Can Go #&%$ Itself Too

I’m with Samuelsson, the Loser Point Can Go #&%$ Itself Too

Whoa whoa whoa, a defensive minded war of attrition against Dave Tippet, I’ve had this nightmare before. Pay-Per View game purchasers were rewarded with five goals in a dominating performance by the Canucks on Sunday, but last night the Canucks and Coyotes delivered chess on ice, and it wasn’t pretty. But all is well; The [...]

Game 40 preview – When lousy teams play does anyone care?

Game 40 preview – When lousy teams play does anyone care?

When a game is on pay per view and the teams are the second (the Oilers) and third (the Leafs) worst teams in the league will anyone actually care enough to pay for the game? If I didn’t already have tickets I know I wouldn’t.

David Krejci was named to the Czech Republic Olympic team, his first Olympic trip.

Vancouver Bound: Four, Likely Five, Bruins Named To Olympic Rosters

Heading into the 2009-10 season, the Olympic summer camps were all the rage. Bruins fans were calling for Steve Yzerman’s head after ‘snubbing’ Marc Savard from the training camp, while praising him at the same time for inviting B’s face-of-the-franchise Milan Lucic to the camp. Safe to say, Bruins fans should be satisfied with the [...]

Bitten By The Desert Dogs

Bitten By The Desert Dogs

Prior to the start of this game both teams new that earning 2 points was imperative. For the Phoenix Coyotes winning this game meant more than gaining points, a win for the Coyotes would have set a franchise record for the most wins at home. Vancouver made sure that achieving this record would be very [...]

A Loss In Dallas…..Keith, Seabrook and Toews Are Olympians

A Loss In Dallas…..Keith, Seabrook and Toews Are Olympians

Unfortunately the bad Cristobal Huet showed up last night and his teammates weren’t firing on all cylinders either. The result was a 5-4 Dallas Stars victory.  Sometimes it takes a loss to refocus.  Winning games without a full 60 minute effort eventually will lead to problems. Last night in big “D”, a sporadic effort did [...]

Bruins Head Back Home After Splitting Florida Vacation

Bruins Head Back Home After Splitting Florida Vacation

The talk of the week has been and will continue to be the 2010 Bridgestone Winter Classic. However, there was still some indoor hockey games this week that the Bruins needed to try and match the energy for down in Florida. Mission (semi)-accomplished. After a three day holiday layoff, the Bruins packed their bags and headed [...]

Predators Defeat Blues 4-3 In a Chippy Contest

Predators Defeat Blues 4-3 In a Chippy Contest

The Nashville Predators snapped a three game losing streak, outlasting the St. LouiS Blues 4-3 in a contest marked by chippiness and cheap shots by the Blues. With this win, the Predators have now tallied 23 wins and 49 points for the season and maintained their hold on second place in the Central Division. St. [...]

Looking at Penner for Team Canada

Looking at Penner for Team Canada

Tomorrow morning Steve Yzerman will unveil the roster for the Canadian Men’s Olypic Hockey Team. One of the players that will almost certainly be left of that list will be Dustin Penner. But Penner is having a hell of a year on a pretty bad Oilers team and his numbers look pretty good when compared to the 25 forwards that were invited to the Olympic orientation.

My Canadian Olympic Team Selections

My Canadian Olympic Team Selections

Here are my predictions for the Canadian Olympic team. Goalies Martin Brodeur, Roberto Luongo, Marc-Andre Fleury….A no brainer. Although it could be argued Fleury should be Brodeur’s back-up rather than Luongo. Actually that would be my choice although I don’t believe it will happen. Defensemen Scott Niedermayer, Chris Pronger, Duncan Keith, Brent Seabrook, Shea Weber, [...]
