Will some of the NHL's most important silverware stay with their current owners, or fine new homes in 2013-14?

Will some of the NHL’s most important silverware stay with their current owners, or fine new homes in 2013-14?

In the third installment of Hockey Independent’s predictions roundtable,  Cris CohenSeth LevinChristopher Triantafilis and Benjamin Woodward  dust off their crystal balls one final time to predict which teams will surprise, disappoint and win it all. They also guess who will take home some of the major hardware at the end of the season.

Biggest Surprise
Cohen (@CC_927) Columbus Blue Jackets  Backstopped by Vezina winner Sergei Bobrovsky, the Jackets will make themselves right at home in the new Metro Division, and will make the playoffs for the second time in franchise history.

Levin (@levinakl) Edmonton Oilers With that much young talent, you have to think one of these years the team will get back to the playoffs.  Why not this year

Triantafilis (@ChrisTriants)  Edmonton Oilers  This team will have a similar feel to the one the Islanders had last year. The young offense will be one of the best in the league, and stretches of solid play from Devan Dubnyk will keep this team alive. Andrew Ference will help bring some stability to the defensive unit, and Justin Schultz becomes one of the league’s top power play QBs.

Woodward (@_BWoodward)  Tampa Bay Lightning  Steven Stamkos and uber-talented rookie Jonathan Drouin will find chemistry early and lead Tampa back to the postseason.

Biggest Disappointment
Cohen Vancouver Canucks  Bringing in John Tortorella to dispense some tough love to a team whose window opportunity is closing was a good idea in theory. I have a tough time believing though he’ll have the kind of success with it that Cup-starved Vancouverites want, given the personnel he has to work with.

Levin Toronto Maple Leafs   The cap situation reminds me of the Devils a few seasons ago, it could be a real mess in Toronto and the looming 10-game suspension for David Clarkson certainly won’t help matters.  It’s likely Phil Kessel will get suspended too and rightfully so, leaving me to think the Leafs will be chasing right out of the gates, and will have a hard time catching up.

Triantafilis Vancouver Canucks The wheels loosen, but not enough to keep them out of the playoffs. Tortorella’s act grows old quickly, and a disgruntled Roberto Luongo gets moved midway through the season.

Woodward Vancouver Canucks  Alain Vigneault may not have been the answer for Vancouver, but I’m not sure John Tortorella’s coaching style exactly fits in with the type of players the Canucks’ employ. The 2011 President’s Trophy winners will be lucky to make it back to the postseason this spring.
