Today the New York Rangers released their 22-man roster for the 2010 Traverse City Prospects Tournament. Five of the 22 members were selections in this year’s NHL entry draft.
The Rangers will be sending:
LW Ryan Bourque, RW Evgeny Grachev, C Roman Horak, LW Colin Martin, RW Chris McKelvie, RW Randy McNaught, C Brendan Shinnimin, C Derek Stepan, RW Christian Thomas, C Ethan Werek, LW Jason Wilson, LW Andrew Yogan, D Lee Baldwin, D Sam Klassen, D Tomas Kundratek, D Dan Maggio, D Brandon Manning, D Dylan McIlrath, D Ryan McDonagh, D Jyri Niemi, G Scott Stajcer and G Cam Talbot.
Along with the Rangers, the Detroit Red Wings, Atlanta Thrashers, Carolina Hurricanes, Minnesota Wild, St. Louis Blues, Columbus Blue Jackets and Dallas Stars are scheduled to participate in the tournament. The Rangers open up the tourney on September 11th when they face the Columbus prospects. The Rangers open up their training camp on September 17th.
On July 21st, the NHL tweeted that they will not provide coverage of the tournament on the NHL Network. I understand that there are obvious production costs to cover a tournament, but it’s truly a shame. For what is essentially a wasteland of summer programming on the network (truthfully, how many times can you watch the same Boston-Buffalo 2010 playoff game over a 2-½ month span?) it would be some new and fresh programming to whet fans’ appetites as a prelude to training camps opening, and give fans of the participating teams a chance to see their prospects in action that they would not normally have a chance to see.
