Bruins and Isles’ Rookies Open Up TD Garden Tonight

Tyler Seguin at Bruins Rookie Training and Development Camp.

After a long four months (nearly to the day) the Boston Bruins will return home to the confines of TD Garden; well sort of. Tonight the Bruins and Islanders will send out their rookies and prospects to do battle in the first of two “friendly’s” this week in Boston.

The Bruins oft hyped 2nd overall pick in 2010’s NHL Entry Draft Tyler Seguin will lead the way for the “baby” Bruins as they get a look at recent Isle’s picks Nino Niederreiter and Kirill Kabanov. After a very successful World Juniors (IIHF World U20 Championships) early this year in which “El Nino” lead his fellow Swede’s in an upset over the Russian squad, Niederreiter looks to impress in his first game on NHL ice. While Bruins young guns Jordan Caron and Jared Knight will be looking to continue a very successful summer of training in front of the expected 10,000 plus in attendance later this evening.

Players To Watch For:

Boston Bruins:

Jared Knight – Wowing the many onlooker’s at the Bruins rookie training and development camp earlier in the summer, Knight would like to carry his stellar Summer performance into the Fall tonight in front of 10,000+ on the TD Garden ice.

Tyler Seguin – Possibly the most hyped draft pick since the days of Joe Thornton, Seguin will have big shoes to fill based on his high expectations alone. It is unknown whether Seguin will be playing at Center or Wing tonight, but either way he will certainly have a large amount of support from the Boston fans.

New York Islanders:

Kirill Kabanov – Some pre-draft questioning of Kabanov’s commitment to an NHL squad caused him to slide from a potential 1st round selection down to the Islanders at 65th overall. The young Russian should be looking to impress tonight as he will be returning to the Moncton Wildcats of the QMJHL at the conclusion of Islanders camp unless he makes the big club.

Nino Niederreiter – Coming off a wildly successful World Juniors back in January in which he tallied 6 goals and 4 assists in only seven games played, Niederreiter will be looking to get some much needed experience against the Bruins rookies tonight in his first in-game action for his new NHL club.

Check back later tonight for a quick recap of the game and tomorrow afternoon for a look at the second of the Rookie Games between the Bruins and Isles.
