Blues Pre-Season Q&A wrapped up question number 8 last week. Thanks to all that voted on Facebook and Twitter.
Question: Pietrangelo or Halak? Who are you more excited to see in a Bluenote?
Pietrangelo – 50%
Halak – 50%
I’m Excited to See?
I have a soft spot for offensive defensemen. Which would lead you to believe that I would vote for Alex Pietrangelo.
Instead I voted for Jaroslav Halak.
Where Pietrangelo represents the rebuild and youth movement, Halak means much more. He beings a legitimate elite goaltending presence
to the Blues. Something the team hasn’t had since the days of Roman Turek.
Chris Mason
Manny Legace
Patrick Lalime
Chris Osgood
The Blues have by in large employed netminders who have been part-time starters and career back-ups. Osgood may be an exception since he has had his fair share of success, but that was all in Detroit. Halak’s success in the last two regulate seasons and the playoffs this spring brings a whole new level of confidence between the pipes.
This is the guy who stifled the two most dominating scorers in the league. He backstopped his team to two upsets over the two strongest offensive teams in the East.
The best part of the whole deal, he is only 25 years old with room to grow.
Only time will tell if Halak is hitting his prime and will turn in to the next Ryan Miller or Roberto Luongo. Blues fans are perfectly happy to see if he will. There hasn’t been some to bank on
Long term in net for a long time.

About the Author: Bleeding Blue from the IL side of the Mississippi, I've been a Blues fan since I can remember seeing the Blues take on the Oilers at the Arena when I was about 5. All I remember is that Brett Hull scored and I was hooked. Now I cheer on the likes of David Backes and TJ Oshie. It's a great time to be a Blues fan as this team rebuilds itself.
