Blues Sign David Perron

Today the St. Louis Blues announced that David Perron has signed on for two more years in St. Louis.
The slick and shifty 3rd year forward will be paid $4.3 million over the next two seasons. Per Jeremy Rutherford of the St. Louis Post Dispatch, David will be paid $1.8 million in 2010-2011 and $2.5 million in 2011-2012.
David has had his fair share of success since breaking in to the NHL in his draft year of 2007. Increasing his goals scored total each season (13, 15, 20) and quickly becoming one of the magician quality stick handlers in the league. At the same time has has struggled with playing with a consistent effort. Two weeks of sluggish play followed up by two or three games of balls to the wall action.
It’s that consistent inconsistency that cost David a longer, more lucrative deal. I don’t doubt for a second that he knows this and is chomping at the bit to get the season going and prove his worth.
David is at his best when he goes to the dirty areas. Using his agility and deceptive strength to fight for pucks and go to the net. When he wants to be he can agitate and provoke better than the Carcillo types out there. It’s that feisty attitude he needs to bring 82+ games a season to be effective. When that part if his game is going, the whole other end of the spectrum opens up. Where the skill, flash, and talent just blow defenders away.
Ask Mark Streit, he knows.
In other Blues news…
With Perron signed the full attention of the front office us now on cornerstone defenseman Erik Johnson. The expectation is that he will take a similar contract to Perron. Consistency issue are present for “EJ” as well and he has to prove that he us worth the contract he wants too. The two sides are not close to having a contract done.
He knows it just like David does. He will get there.
Per an Andy Strickland Tweet the Blues are not filling the Assistant GM role vacated by Jarmo Kekalainen. Larry Pleau will stay on board and take over the management of the scouting department.

About the Author: Bleeding Blue from the IL side of the Mississippi, I've been a Blues fan since I can remember seeing the Blues take on the Oilers at the Arena when I was about 5. All I remember is that Brett Hull scored and I was hooked. Now I cheer on the likes of David Backes and TJ Oshie. It's a great time to be a Blues fan as this team rebuilds itself.
