I hope some non-Isles fans read this too. It's amazing how many want to dump on the team not realizing it's just a bookkeeping measure. The Isles sure have invited a lot of scorn and ridicule over the years with some of their 'zag when everyone else zigs' mentality, but this was a smart move for both Boston and NY.

Thanks for laying it out for all to digest properly, BD Gallof. Always appreciate your commentary and insight on all things Islanders.

When I first read a tweet I was not happy. This AM, when I became a little more educated on the transaction, I realized what you summarized so well is correct. THis is actually a brilliant move by Snow to gain maximum flexibility when he decides to deal his veteran assets. Anyone who is pissed or angry that they are not using the money now is missing the big picture. IN the end, this is about Brooklyn. THat is when the Islanders must have a competitive team. That is still imo 2 years away as they need be competitive the year b4 they get to Brooklyn. And competitive means playoffs. ALso, if you take a step back - the rebuild is a massive undertaking....not a short term patch. The entire organization had to be tear down and rebuilt. Only now, do we see the pieces in the jrs, college ranks, AHL and in the NHL that should be ready to make that compettive team by 2015. In the interim, dont be surprised if additional draft choices and other young talent is secured to further this massive rebuild.
