DAILY RUMORS: Lyle Shoots Down The Possibility Of A “Ryan-for-Carter” Swap.

We at HockeyIndependent.com want to be your resource and filter for what is going on in the NHL. We try to disseminate the noise in the blogosphere. We don’t look to to attack those sources, but to question the veracity of the rumor with cold logic, hockey smarts and knowledge. To do that… we have partnered with the one of the best in the NHL blogosphere….Lyle Richardson of SpectorsHockey.net. Daily Rumors with Lyle Richardson will now be a regular feature on HI this summer and beyond…

The lack of progress in contract negotiations between restricted free agent winger Bobby Ryan and the Anaheim Ducks is leading to speculation he could either receive an offer sheet from a rival club or become trade bait.

Although Ducks GM Bob Murray repeatedly said since April he wouldn’t trade Ryan that hasn’t put an end to the speculation he might change his mind should he remain at loggerheads with the Ryan camp.

The latest comes from Bleacher Report, suggesting a swap of Ryan to the Philadelphia Flyers for Jeff Carter would be a perfect fit:

“There were reports last week that Ryan rejected a five-year, $25 million offer, so it’s hard to say what his camp has in mind for a fair number.

Wouldn’t Bobby Ryan for Jeff Carter make so much sense for both teams?”

Well, it would, if the Flyers were seriously willing to part with Carter, something they’ve been unwilling to do for the past two years.

Indeed, rather than move Carter to dump salary this summer, Flyers GM Paul Holmgren convinced veteran winger Simon Gagne to waive his “no-trade” clause to facilitate an eventual salary-dumping trade.

If a Ryan-for-Carter swap made sense for both teams it probably would’ve been done by now.

Flyers management has consistently resisted moving Carter. Given their recent moves it’s clear they have no intention of doing so this summer.
