DAILY RUMORS: Maxim Afinogenov To Leafs? Not So Fast

We at HockeyIndependent.com want to be your resource and filter for what is going on in the NHL. We try to disseminate the noise in the blogosphere. We don’t look to to attack those sources, but to question the veracity of the rumor with cold logic, hockey smarts and knowledge. To do that… we have partnered with the one of the best in the NHL blogosphere….Lyle Richardson of SpectorsHockey.net. Daily Rumors with Lyle Richardson will now be a regular feature on HI this summer and beyond…

The Toronto Maple Leafs quest to bolster their scoring lines has continued beyond the opening week of the NHL’s unrestricted free agent period.

General manager Brian Burke made two solid acquisitions via trade (Kris Versteeg from Chicago) and free agency (two-time 40-point forward Colby Armstrong), but it’s widely believed Burke isn’t done dealing.

He still has veteran puck-moving defenseman Tomas Kaberle as a potential bargaining chip until August 1st, when the blueliner’s “no-trade” clause goes into effect. It’s rumored Burke will shop Kaberle aggressively by mid-July to teams who missed out on addressing their blueline needs via free agency in hopes of landing a scoring forward in return.

Failing a trade, free agency could again be an option for Burke.

Hendrick’s Hockey recently reported the Leafs had “shown some interest in UFA Maxim Afinogenov” but I have a hard time believing that one.

Not that I’m dismissing Hendrick’s Hockey, but rather the thought of Afinogenov on a Brian Burke-managed team seems very out of place to me.

Burke as is well-known likes his forwards to be hard-working and strong at both ends of the ice, something Afinogenov despite his obvious offensive talent isn’t particularly known for.

The 30-year- old winger certainly bounced back last season from two sub-par performances in the two seasons prior to 2009-10, racking up 24 goals and 61 points in 82 games with the Atlanta Thrashers.

Tellingly though, the Thrashers opted not to re-sign him, and Afinogenov remains unsigned a week into the NHL free agent period.

Most likely Afinogenov’s one-dimensional play has much to do with that, and any player who doesn’t back-check won’t get a serious look by Burke.

  2. Almost everyone that makesan income on the internet (even the millionaires) do so through affiliate marketing. Being successful in affiliate marketing involves knowing the formula that makes other affiliate marketers successful. For instance, autoblogging. Autoblogging has been one of the least well-known forms of making money for quite some time… basically because it’s quite difficult to make a good auto-blog. Yet, when done right, it can provide you with a perpetual passive income with the only real work required being the setting up process. Video Marketing, and several other marketing strategies are all designed to drive traffic to your site, can be incorporated organicly in order to raise the position your site appears in the SERPs when someone searches for a term related to your site. And yet, even this can be totally automated.
