EXCLUSIVE: Town Of Hempstead Reaction To Casino

I tracked down a ToH source who would give me a straight answer about yesterday’s Nassau County bombshell which ended up on the front page of Newsday.

Source: “No conspiracy here, BD. She found out same as you did. She was caught off-guard.”

Was she pissed? After all, the Town of Hempstead put a lot out there that they are “taking the reins” here, with a Memorial Day deadline for the results of the FP Clark study. Doesn’t this put that off?

Source: Kate really doesn’t get pissed. Let’s say SURPRISED. She was surprised by it. However, we are continuing with our plan here. She tactfully responded when asked about it in the news, but we are going forward with our plans.

With a casino possibly added to the mix, are you concerned about traffic? Traffic was a big issue at the hearing by the town board back in August. Wouldn’t there be more traffic with a casino.

Source: Yes. Issue of traffic will not change. It still is at issue and they would still need to address the traffic no matter who it was.

Where do you think Charles Wang and Scott Rechler stand in all of this? I have heard they are upset.

Source: The day after election day we never heard from Charles again. I mean, just because Suozzi is out of office doesn’t mean it all just ends, right? What kind of deal is that? Where have these guys been? They haven’t called Mangano back. They have taken down the website now. Charles has really caused his own problems with Mangano with his antics.

Mangano offering land to the Shinnecock nation, or even entertaining the idea seems very curious when Rechler/Wang had a lease deal with Suozzi. Is this the bigger message here?

Source: Listen, that sweetheart deal just isn’t happening. That deal helps nobody locally except Charles Wang. Mangano is sitting staring at a $300 million debt for the county.

So, for arguments sake, lets say you guys come out with your scaled down version, and Charles says: Hell, ok…I’ll build that. You mean…

Source: Mangano will be changing that lease deal. No way that happens

So, in the end will something be done for NY Islander fans?

Source: Yes. Kate isn’t going to let her legacy be nothing was done while on her watch. We are focusing on finishing with FP Clark and continuing on our path.

Do you think the casino will happen? My take on it was very negative.

Source: Well, it’s not very likely. We understand that Mangano is trying to make this a productive conversation and come up with ways to get the county out of debt. But, doesn’t seem likely

More politics. The Republicans of Nassau County are screwing with Wang now because of his support of the Dems during the last election. No way will they put a casino there like I said 5 minutes after this story came out a casino would cause more traffic headaches then Wang’s mini city. A scaled down LH will eventually be offered to Wang then the ball will be in his court to either accept or reject.

How does it make you feel about your constituents playing with the peoples heads out of revenge…What is this baby games???This is why I’m not longer a registered republican but instead as an independent. I cant be part of this corruption and political games because the only people that suffer are the people they are supposed to be representing. I wonder how you feel about this

This is about what I would have expected to hear, but thanks for taking the time to get a response. Great artwork as always!!!

So Nassau intends to change the lease deal? Even if the TOH and Wang reach an agreement? That doesn’t bode well, now, does it.

  6. BDGallof says:

no it doesn’t bode well at all. The lease deal has been brought up several times now by ToH, and clearly an issue.

    • RobJC says:

Why does the ToH want to fight against Wang making money???He’s been dumping money into this and seeing nothing but astronomical losses and now that hes finally getting something out of it the crooks want to stop it???What happened to the GOP being for small govt???This really blows because I was glad to see Wanger get out from under that stranglehold of a lease of SMG. I thought this was a good sign that the Islanders owner could actually benifit somehow by being the owner. I guess the ToH mob want their take…

  7. Steve says:

What lease deal is being discussed in the article? What I know is that the latest sublease where the Isles pay SMG around 17 million whether or not the Isles stay in NVMC until 2015 plus raking in all revenues from NVMC has ticked off the Republicans greatly. Hopefully Wang is negotiating with either Brooklyn or Queens to get out of the circus in Nassau County.

$300 – 400 million debt in 1 of the highest taxed counties? Nassau republicans are morons.

    • Isle27 says:

Just to educate you a little. The big problem on LI is school taxes. This problem can be taken care of if some steps are taken. First you need consolidation of all these school districts. Does every little school district on LI need a Superintendent making almost 250G’s a year and their assistant making 160G’s a year. Too many chiefs and not enough Indians in the school system on LI. Let’s cut out some of these high salary fat cats. They always look to raise our school tax every year well how about they start chopping their bloated school budgets and they can start with these fat cats.

  9. Isle27 says:

Nassau was run by a Democrat the last 8 YEARS looks like you’re the ill informed moron. Do you even live in Nassau?

  10. Steve says:

Hi BD thanks for the info. Would SMG be involved in the lease that you mentioned? Also has the environmental process been done by TOH yet? Or would that actually happen after the zoning is done by TOH?

  11. BDGallof says:

    SMG? No.

TOH Environmental process: More of a Nick question. He’s our resident expert, but ToH has paid FP Clark (Wang stopped paying them in Nov) to finish the environmental review. Results from Clark are expected around Memorial Day.

  12. isles99 says:

who cares?….this is the same garbage thats been thrown around for years…he said, she said, etc. bottom line is the republcians, democrats, and wang are ALL crooks.(glad, i won’t get my post deleted for saying that) its the truth. bottom line is that i only care about the islanders, which all sides are using as a tool to get what they want. we’ll have a definitive answer by 2015. until then, i could care less what happens.

  13. FantasyIsles says:

All one need do is Google “Charles Wang” and his former company “Computer Associates” and read what the Official Court Appointed Investigators had to say about his conduct – ah, I’ll save you the time: he’s a crook through and through.

And to those no-nothing apologists who continue to espouse the idea that naive little Charlie was hoodwinked by those big bad politicos? Well, Fonzie (Al D’Amato)sat on Wang’s CA Board of Directors long before Charlie even bought the Islanders.

So, in the end, it’s really just a story about a disingenuous, duplicitous billionaire trying to strong-arm an entrenched self-serving local political machine (aren’t they all?) to get his financial bonanza.

No, Virginia, there isn’t honor amongst thieves.

    • personally i’d rather see charles wang get his wish, that area actually have something nice in it, and that political machine being broken apart and dismantled piece by piece. but we don’t all get what we want now, do we?

  14. I’ve been hunting pretty much everywhere for all of this advice… I’m ecstatic someone by chance has the resolution to a very straightforward problem. You will have no perception the number of online websites We have gone to during the past hour. Thx for the material
