Fighting for a cure – Cancer Fundraiser

In an effort to reach out to a worldwide community, George Brew of Whats Brewin, Chris Wassel of The Program and Anthony Curatolo of The Hockey Guys have all come together to present an event to raise funds in order to further develop research within the society of Cancer Awareness. Backed by LiveStrong: The Lance Armstrong Foundation and the Leukemia/Lymphoma Society, all proceeds will be directed to both organizations.

The NHL Foundation has jumped on board as well in donating items such as NHL Autographed merchandise:  Vinny Lecavalier and Eric Staal signed jerseys, pucks, hats and more.

Cancer is a disease that ruins families as well as lives on a daily basis, worldwide. The fight against cancer needs all the support it can possibly get in further research to develop cures that will surpass the current level of “fight” against the disease.

As a survivor myself, when I was approached with the opportunity to take part in this event it was not only touching but something I felt I needed to jump on board with.  I have very scary memories of seeing little children go through such a painful experience that it has stayed with me for years. Everyone who has been affected by the word “cancer” at any capacity can understand that we all need to take a stand, in any way, and this is our way of saying “we are here to help”.

Michelle Kenneth who is a well known and respected person within the Hockey community has stepped above and beyond as well with this post on her personal blog site: Where to Begin. She is willing to match donations up to $500.00, something she took the liberty to do out of the kindness of her heart.  We understand how important this battle is, and are trying to spread the word to gain support as much as possible.  Thanks to Hockey Independent in allowing us to take it one step further here today.

Being that two very large foundations have backed the event, goals have been set but the only way to reach those goals is with the support of you.

Remember, every $1.00 helps.  We understand that in today’s rough economy it is difficult to donate however, a simple dollar donation goes a long way.

We hope you can help us reach our goals.

Thank you all for taking the time to read this and hopefully we will be able to thank you further for supporting this great cause.

Good luck to all of you and your teams heading down the stretch run fighting for a playoff spot!  This is one of the best times of the hockey year.

p.s. – A very big thank you to the Gallof brothers for allowing me to set up this blog.

About the Author: Anthony Curatolo is a 31 y/o New Yorker with a passion for the game that takes him into a different category then the regular run of the mill fan. He has an intense, creative, witty style that will either have you love him or hate him within the first paragraph you read from one of his writings. Growing up in a hockey world (his father was raised in Montreal, and his father brought that passion with him into the States) was a blessing in disguise for Anthony. Hockey has become more then a passion and infatuation for, and he hopes to one day have a career within the sport. Picked up originally by the Checking Line (from guest blogs written for HockeyBuzz), Anthony began blogging on a daily basis. When his original site, the checking line, went down the writing passion started to fall off. A few years later, Crash the Crease was born and Anthony was approached and asked to write for them. Since that time (August '08), Anthony has become a panel member on the websites Sunday talk show, as well as branching off and forming 1/3 of the talk show team called "The Hockey Guys!" Now Anthony takes his mind and his writings to the next level as he begins his journey with Hockey Independent and asks that there are many that join him. The Kings are the team, the style is Independent and the game is Hockey - there is nothing better in the universe. Although his pride bleeds for the Orange and Black (yes folks, the Philadelphia Flyers) Anthony is also a FAN of the game, and has knowledge for all 30 teams within the league coming from his true, pure love for the sport in it's entirety. As a voice of a fan for the fans (as we all know is the "Crash the Crease" and "The Hockey Guys" slogans) there will be debate, controversy, praise and love all combined into one giant thing - blogs by Anthony.
